The Wafer® Shaper Cutters are designed for high production applications in external or internal gears and splines of spur or low helix angle configurations.
The highly efficient cutting geometry of these cutters gives real increases in productivity on standard or CNC gear shapers. The cutter is an assembly consisting of a replaceable Wafer® blade, accurately held by a Clamp and Backup Ring.
Tools run faster and stay on the machine longer. No machine setting changes are required at tool changeover - cutters are easily assembled by clamping them between clamp and backup ring (see picture). The Wafer® Shaper Cutter is suited to high production applications where it can be justified on a cost per part basis, when compared against the costs associated with resharpening and recoating conventional cutters.
