Spline gauges are go and no go plug gauges for splines. They are used as a quick inspection method for splines with involute, straight-sided and serration flanks.
The most important feature when inspecting splines is usability, which is tested with spline gauges. The spline gauges are designed according to the tolerances ‘actual’ and ‘effective’.
According to DIN 5480 and other popular spline standards, go gauges are assigned highest priority when inspecting the tolerance 'effective'.
The price for spline gauges includes the creation of a complete gauge drawing and an inspection certificate of the new gauge from FRENCO's calibration laboratory (both of which are also available in digital format).
Material:
Spline gauges are available from chrome steel, powder metallurgy high speed steel ASP and high-alloy powder metallurgy high speed steel HX.
Wear resistance of spline gauges is determined by the alloying constituents chromium and vanadium, and by the hardness of the material. The intervals of wear tests complies with the wear resistance, which means that highly wear resistant materials allow considerably longer inspection intervals, which in return more than compensates for the often higher manufacturing costs of the tools.
The estimated life span is used as basis for the monitoring cycle and is expressed in the number of workpiece inspections carried out:
